In the 7th Moon, The Chief Turned Into a Swimming Fish and Ate the Head of His Enemy By Magic
The Kasaï All Stars musicians hail from the central Kasaï region, the diamond-rich province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They all now live in Kinshasa, bringing together their energies, histories, cultures, voices and instruments in a 100% Kasaï collective. Their festive and super-saturated music is based on likembé, (electric) thumb piano, the lokombé – an enormous trapezium wooden drum, xylophones, guitars, percussion and of course, ever present vocals. During the colonial period, these instruments were confiscated and the ceremonies forbidden as too pagan and mystical. On this incredible debut album, Kasaï All Stars burst forth with an extraordinary range of vibrations and rhythms, demonstrating yet again the infinite riches of DRC music.
